News & Events
(August 2010) A warm welcome to the new CAOS M.Tech. and M.Sc. students! We are fortunate to have a large group of
enthusiastic students from various universities all over India, who have been selected and have
joined us this year. In particular, the new M.Tech. in Climate Science has ten students while the
M.Sc. Engg. program has four new students.
(June 2010) We are pleased to welcome Prof. Raghu Murtugudde and Dr. Anil V. Kulkarni to CAOS and the Divecha Centre.
These two distinguished scientists will be in
residence at the Centre for an extended period. Dr. Murtugudde is a Professor
in Atmospheric and Oceanic Science as well as the Earth System Science Interdisciplinary Center (ESIC)
at the University of Maryland. Dr. A.V. Kulkarni, an expert on Himalayan glaciers, is a Distinguished Visiting Scientist at IISc. He
was affiliated with ISRO's
Space Applications Centre (SAC) in Ahemedabad.
CAOS with support from the Divecha Centre will host a summer school on Predictability of Weather and
Climate. The duration of the school is two weeks, starting on May 17, 2010.
The instructor for the course is Dr. V. Krishnamurthy of the Center for Ocean-Land-Atmosphere Studies (COLA) and the
Department of Atmospheric, Oceanic and Earth Sciences,
George Mason University. Details of the course subject, application procedure and contact information can be found on the following

(September 2009) Congratulations to Prof. S.K. Satheesh on being selected
to receive the prestigious Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar award in Earth, Atmosphere, Ocean & Planetary Sciences for 2009.
(July 2009) Climate Science Lecture Series. Lectures on the Earth's
climate : its present state, evolution and some scenarios for the future. Aimed
at univeristy faculty involved in the teaching of atmosphere-ocean-climate
courses to undergraduate students.
(June 2009) New faculty member Dr. Jai Sukhatme (Ph.D. University of Chicago, B.Tech. IIT-Bombay) has joined
CAOS. His primary field of research is geophysical fluid dynamics. Prior to joining CAOS,
Jai was a Research Associate in the Mathematics department at the
University of Wisconsin-Madison. Before which he spent two years at the
National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR) as a postdoc in the Advanced Study Program (ASP).
